CARLA McILROY
Carla graduated from the University of Cape Town with a BSc in Speech Language Pathology in 2015. She completed her community service year at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in 2016, where she discovered her passion for paediatric speech and feeding therapy.
Thereafter, she worked at a government special-needs school in Cape Town, assessing and treating learners with a range of communication and feeding difficulties.
Since relocating to Johannesburg in July 2018, Carla has worked in private practice. She specialises in infants with feeding and communication difficulties, about which she is passionate. having assisted many moms and babies on their breast -feeding journeys.
This lead Carla in qualifying as a South African Certified Lactation Consultant.
Her work in neonatal ICU’s and with breastfeeding dyads gives her the opportunity to assist mom’s and babies at some of their most vulnerable stages, which she sees as a real privilege.
Another area of special interest for Carla is working with children with special needs, specifically those on the Autism Spectrum. Carla feels that it is a huge privilege and joy to help children with two of the most basic human functions that so many of us take for granted: eating and communicating!
Carla presently works extensively in neonatal and cardio-thoracic ICU’s with infants and children with feeding difficulties.
